Harlan’s specialty in coaching and consulting lie in four areas:                                    
  • Helping small and mid size companies that are struggling to quickly overcome their challenges.
  • Advising successful small and mid size companies who want to grow and move from the owner working in the business to working on the business.
  • Directing and guiding a leadership change to the next generation in a family business.
  • Transitioning individuals or teams who are leaving the corporate world and entering the world of being an entrepreneur.
In doing so, he has developed a wide range of intervention tools and methodologies.  Harlan works with leaders and teams to define their individual and organizational needs and designs processes to achieve their desired results.

Business Experience

With over 30 years’ experience in leading major improvement efforts and as vice president of a major oil supply company, Harlan brings a wide range of business background to his clients.  His extensive coaching and consulting career has covered such industries as high tech, telecommunications, oil and gas, defense, transportation and construction.  Harlan has served on several boards of directors, including being board chairman for a hospital, consulted in the establishment of boards and, for over six years, facilitated board meetings. He has a unique ability to engage individuals and groups in drawing from them the information required for major improvement efforts and enlisting a deep level of ownership in the success of that change.
Harlan has a seven-step process in transitioning people from working in the corporate world to becoming entrepreneurs.  Having had that experience over the past 20 years; Harlan has gained knowledge and wisdom that he shares with his clients.

Education

After earning a BS in Economics, Harlan attended the University of Missouri where he obtained an MBA with a concentration in human resources.  He has pursued a life long educational journey that includes being a Certified Behavioral Analyst, Certified Facilitator, and Certified Strategic Business Leadership Facilitator.   Harlan has also completed sixty hours of basic and advanced mediation training through the Texas State Dispute Resolution Center.

Personal

A resident of Austin, Texas, for over 15 years, Harlan enjoys the hill country life style and participating in the athletic and cultural activities associated with a major university.  He and his wife, Nancy, enjoy a life together that is full of energy and spirit.  Harlan believes his marriage enhances his life and together, they are on an exciting life journey.  As part of that journey, you might find Harlan and Nancy on the golf course where Nancy is driving the cart and coaching Harlan on the mental part of the game.  Rounding out their family in Austin is Feathers, their Bichon.
